THE SYSTEM

Another thing that makes our system very different from many others is that, it aims to cover ALL aspects of Martial arts.  In order to learn ALL area’s of martial arts you would normally need to attend anything up to 6 different clubs to do this. At Bushido Kai, we cover all these area’s (and more) under one roof, by breaking our structure into 3 main area’s of learning,

Atemi Waza

(Standing techniques)

Nage Waza

(Clinching, Takdown and throwing techniques)

Ne-Waza

(Grappling, Wrestling, Ground techniques)

with these three areas in addition containing:

Punching - Kicking - Elbows - Knees -  throwing - Joint locks - takedowns - chokes - submissions - pad & Bag work - Groundwork and also weapons training.

Combine this with our “Chi Kung” (breathing) and combat conditioning, your fitness and overall health will naturally rise too.

The most common reason for most people not to get involved in the martial arts, is that they feel they are not fit enough. This could not be more wrong, as the Bushido-Kai system uses your “Natural Body Movements” so you are not being asked to do anything other than what you are already capable of.  As you progress you will naturally become a lot fitter as you go though the system – so whether you are a sports person already, or someone who has not done anything physical for years? This system fits perfectly to you. By learning at your pace!  You will get devastating self defence with Fitness thrown in free? After all is going to the Gym going to fend off that knife wielding attacker? With the most respect, I am afraid not..

Bushido-Kai caters for ALL ages, students as young as 5 years old train in a modified Junior Self defence system that teaches them Non striking Protection techniques that a young child many need to help them combat issues that can occur both at school and in the public domain. Our Programme works on the assumption that should a child be attacked (bullied) then it will generally be from another child either in or very close to their own age bracket, therefore these techniques are both practical AND usable NOW, rather than techniques that the child can only use later in life. our Juniors work through a full syllabus designed totally for them. until they reach 13..

(at 13+ they transition to the full techniques of the Adult syllabus).

They are rewarded every time they reach a quarter of their required grading time with a tag on their belt for reaching each section of their training requirement, and then after receiving all 4 tags move on to take their full belt test. (every 3-4 months)

The adult students also grade every 3 –4 months as a beginner. this time rises as the grades go higher, with anything between 5-8  years needed to Black Belt depending on your training schedules.

Tsubokai - Our Core Principles

"Kata" are the “dance-like” movements handed down, often in secrecy, through generations that take you back to a time when Karate was a balanced all-encompassing system of self-defence based on the methodology of the masters of pre 1900. Pre-1900 Karate also known as "To-Te" or "Kempo" was more in favour of effective self-defence whereas post 1900 Karate began to change in favour of health and fitness benefits and many of the Kata were changed by taking the more dangerous movements out and replacing them with closed fist blocks and physically demanding high kicks. This modified version of Karate evolved into today’s modern sport of Karate-Do, some examples of Karate-Do are the styles of Shotokan, Shotokai, Wado-Ryu, Shito Ryu, Shukokai etc.

The Original Kempo-Karate that was pieced back together through the research of Alan Wolfenden and his team, showed us that by using only the oldest available versions of the Traditional Kata and applying those movements in a structured syllabus - you have a complete system...for self defence purposes only. You will find no sport techniques in this style, all Kata movements are applied unchanged from their original format.

The Tsubokai influenced Bushido Kai-Karate- Jitsu is a living system and still continues to develop to this day. This allows the techniques and principles to be tailored to the individual student with regard to their personal needs making it suitable for men and women of all ages and different physical conditions. This is a far cry from the way modern Karate systems are taught where everybody does the same methods, the same way, whether it would be practical or physically possible for them to do it. This tailoring of the system is far more in keeping with the old Okinawan and Chinese ways of teaching, rather than the mass-produced “University” Karate of modern post war Japan.

By practising the Tsubokai influenced Bushido Kempo-Karate system, the student can gain an understanding of the fighting methods of Okinawan Karate before it became just a system for health and sport, training involves the use of varying degrees of power generation, strikes with multiple parts of the body to an assailant’s weaker areas and vital points. Joint locks and restraints along with practical throws and takedowns, strangles and chokes are also included in the style. Training in highly effective and totally practical self defence methods coupled with good moral values and health-promoting exercises creates a well-balanced outlook on life.

If you are currently practising Karate or a related art and feel deep down that there is a great deal lacking in the style and system that you are learning, maybe you feel that it is not as effective for self defence as you are told it is, then please feel free to drop in and watch a Bushido-Kai class at any time, you never know we might just have the answers to your questions.

The name of our club is “Bushido Kai Karate-Jitsu”. Which translates as

“ The Art of the Warrior”.

our system follows the Toudi Jitsu techniques researched by the Tsubokai society, this is an ancient form of martial arts based on the oldest - once lost teachings of the masters of old. By following these teachings we have a style that uses your natural body movements with devastating effects.

Although the martial arts take years to perfect, through these ancient methods of teaching, you will be able to defend yourself in real world combat situations in just a few weeks.  Our system is based around the fact that you do not have to be big and powerful to defend yourself. This is due to the fact that the ancient forms use natural balance and various “Reaction points” on the body to repel almost any kind of attack you can think of,  therefore a smaller person can very easily overpower a much larger person.  also because the principles within our art are using your body as it would naturally move, not only is it quick to learn – but once you have learned the basics, they will become a natural reaction should they ever be needed – and that is the most important thing when defending yourself.

TSUBOKAI - (The origins of our Karate-Jutsu)

The Bushido-Kai Martial arts systems follow the ancient principles of Kempo-Karate, as pieced together over many years of study by The Tsubokai research group, and its findings were passed on to us by its senior Instructor Alan Wolfenden. This is Okinawan Karate for the purpose it was intended - Self defence only!

Tsubokai Okinawa Karate methods are the result of applying 20+ years training and research into the lost or little known Ancient Fighting Arts of Okinawa and China. Using internal principles of power generation combined with the theories of economy of motion and pressure point manipulation to the grappling, throwing, joint locking, punching, striking and kicking methods of the many systems researched and applying them to the movements and postures of the formal exercises of the Okinawan Fighting Arts known as "Kata".
